Super Bowl XLVII Menu

I can finally plan out my menu for this years Super Bowl and I'm off to a great start, I'm so excited!!  My friend Lene who is from the San Francisco area suggested I make Mission Burritos another popular SF food item.  I told her I didn't want an all seafood menu being that both teams are located off a seacoast just on opposite ends.  I'm so glad she suggested these burritos and I'm coming up with all kinds of ideas to what to put into them.  I can't wait!

The burritos remind me so much of the way my mom made them when I was growing up.  The Papas con Chorizo (diced potatoes cooked with Mexican breakfast sausage) were always a favorite but I'm convinced she just stuffed the tortilla with whatever we had in the refrigerator at the time.    My plan is to have a Mission Burrito Bar.  Similar to what you see at Chipotle.  You pick what you want to put inside your burrito and stuff it to the gills!  I plan to have (all homemade):

  • Shredded Pork/Chicken
  • Carne Asada
  • Papas con Chorizo (potatoes with Mexican breakfast sausage)
  • Pinto Beans
  • Mexican Rice
  • Restaurant Style Salsa
  • Mango Salsa
  • Sour Cream
  • Guacamole
  • Shredded lettuce/diced tomatoes/sliced black olives
  • Limes
  • Flour and Corn tortillas
  • Maryland Crab Cakes
I haven't planned for dessert yet as well as some other sides so any suggestions especially on the Maryland side, would be greatly appreciated!!

Just in Time for the BIG Day

So yea, I'm venturing out and stepping out of my comfort zone.  Haven't done this in a long, long time.  In four days I will be leading a class.  I will be sharing my passion for the game of football and teaching the basic fundamentals to other women who need help understanding it.  Last time I taught a class was over two decades ago to teens in Sunday School.  Needless to say I am very, very rusty.  But I feel much better now than I did a week ago.  I have received some great tips from some great friends like Prof. Andy Coleman who teaches Football at Liberty University, Paula a bloggy friend from Sweet Pea, a middle school teacher who showed me how to plan it all out, another bloggy friend Keetha from The Eclectic Company who is more passionate about the game of football than I am, my daughter Elise who could basically become the first female NFL Commissioner, she is my editor and adviser and finally obviously my hubby who has known and loved the game of football for over 60 years.

This class is coming just in time for the BIG game (Super Bowl XLVII on February 3, 2013), so my goal is that these ladies will have a better understanding of the game and will be able to sit in the mancave and enjoy the game just as much as the rest of them.

If you live in the central VA area, by all means please come join us!  We'd love to see you!

Prepping for the BIG Day

What BIG day you ask?

Why, Super Bowl Sunday of course in three weeks on February 3rd.

This weekend there will be four games.

Next weekend there will be two games, in which the winners from those two games will head to Super Bowl XLVII.

I have three weeks to prepare, do some research on what kind of dishes I'll be preparing.  See, the way we do it at our house, we prepare dishes that represent the town from where each team comes from.  Check out our menu from last years Super Bowl here when the New England Patriots played the New York Giants.

In the above image, I have placed a red check next to the teams I believe will win this weekends games.  It's going to be fun to see how well I did on my picks.

I predict that New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will make it to the Super Bowl.  If so, that means it will be a seafood feast!!

Who are you picking to win the Super Bowl?

Have a blessed weekend and remember to savor every moment!

Open to Suggestions

Help!  Yes, I mean it.  This is the address plaque on our house.  It needs some work, tweaking, updating or better yet, an overhaul?

For one: It can't be seen from the street.  Two: It's old.  So, any suggestions are welcome and I look forward to hearing from you :)

A Very Simple Winter Mantel

I love bare twigs, snow, snowmen and Cardinals.  This Winter theme was inspired by the Frosted Mason Jars I painted last month.

I painted this simple Winter scene yesterday evening on a 24x18" canvas.

I love the way Red Cardinals look against the snow white theme.  We have many Cardinals flying around in our yard.  If we ever get some snow, I hope to take my own picture of a Cardinal in it.

So, I'm so embarrassed to show our fireplace stone.  We use our fireplace all Winter long.  This soot is so hard to take off.  The areas that are dark and heavy with soot is where the heat is the most intense but the heat has also disintegrated the stone.  It's no longer smooth in those areas but full of sharp craters which makes it very difficult to deep clean.  I tried all kinds of cleaners to no avail up until today....  I think I found the answer.

Now, it really doesn't look like I hardly did anything to it and you're right.  I'm going to wait until after early Spring before I can give it a good deepcleaning with odorless, oven cleaner.  This is as far as I got and I'm really encouraged.  BUT and that's a big BUT, if I'm not 100% satisfied in the late Spring, I told hubby I want to demolish it and rebuild a new one.

I hope and pray you're enjoying the New Year.  Be blessed!
