Mary Ellen's (Walton) Cookbook

We've been away on a mini-vacation and just gettin' back to "civilization".  Numerous times this past week I had no access to the internet, including my smartphone ....but that can be a good thing, right?  After all that's  what vacation is all about - getting away from it all.  We thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful, quiet - in the country (to include cow smells) B&B in upstate NY as well as visits with lots of friends and families and several drives down "memory lane".  God is good and we are overwhelmingly blessed.  We started out by making our first stop at Waltons Mountain, comfortably nestled in a holler (hallow) up in the mountain in central VA.  We got to see and take pictures next to the old Walton homestead and do the usual shopping in the gift shop and that's where my eyes zeroed in on a cookbook. Mary Ellen's (Marion Hamner Hawkes) cookbook. Nothing fancy about it.  It's a thin, plain, black and white, spiral bounded book but I took quick glance through it and got excited about the thought of making all these homemade, made from scratch dishes. So to say all that, I will start on my venture for the next couple of weeks and start making her recipes and posting them on iSavortheweekend. Starting this weekend :)

Good night John Boy!

  1. I wrote that whole post using my smartphone, which isn't always smart. I noticed the more than usual typos. Sorry!! I can barely see the screen and my thumb knuckles are stiff and sore. Have a wonderful weekend!!!

  2. See, I didn't even know I could use my phone to write a post, so you are ahead of me! I take forever to text, so it would take me a month or two to write a post! The cookbook sounds like a fun idea. Looking forward to it.

  3. Pam, it's really easy when you use their mobile version. The only thing is you can't upload pictures, at least I don't think you can. It's not my favorite way but since I only had text to post and since we were in the car travelling back home, it past the time away and at least 50 miles came and went.
